Round Diamonds

Round diamonds are unquestionably the most popular diamond shape of all diamond shapes. The other most popular diamond shapes include Princess, Asscher, Marquise, Emerald, Radiant, Cushion, Pear, Oval, and Heart.

When shopping for an engagement ring, it is very common to see trays of diamond rings with round diamonds mounted into the rings as the center stone. Because of their cut, round diamonds receive light in such a way to make them sparkle and appear very brilliant. It is this brilliance or sparkle that some women are attracted to. If you place several engagement rings with center round diamonds into a ring tray, this makes for a very eye catching display.

Within the last decade, the popularity of the round diamond shape has been challenged by other shapes. One possible reason for this is because women have decided that they want something unusual or simply different from the everyday round diamond. Princess and Marquise shaped diamonds have become very popular as a substitute for the traditional round diamond. These shapes can now be found in abundance in most jewelry stores and websites. They are no longer considered rarities.

Round diamonds offer at least two very substantial advantages. First, because they refract light in such a way to give that sparkle and radiance that so many women are attracted to, they are very eye catching. Second, the shape makes for very easy mounting in engagement rings and other jewelry. Creating settings to hold a round diamond is a relatively easy task for most jewelers. Settings refer to the way that the diamond is held in place in a piece of jewelry. These are also commonly referred to as prongs.

You can find round diamonds in all types of jewelry. They are especially popular in stud earrings and most people purchase diamond stud earrings with either a round diamond or a princess diamond. They are certainly not difficult to notice. Within the last two decades, you can easily find professional athletes wearing very large round diamond stud earrings. At times, the diamonds do not even seem real as they are so large.

There are other types of jewelry that sport round diamonds and are very popular. This includes necklaces and bracelets. Even though tennis bracelets tend to use princess diamonds, you can easily find tennis bracelets with round diamonds. Swiss watches also make use of diamonds and some include round diamonds in the bezel or embedded into the watch face.

Even though white is the most popular color of round diamonds, they also come in several other colors including yellow, pink, orange, purple, green, gray and black. Of these different colors, yellow and pink are the most popular colors of round diamonds after white.
