White Diamonds
White diamonds are produced all over the world and are cut in many shapes and sizes. With the rise in popularity of colored diamonds the term white diamond is misleading. A white diamond is considered to be totally colorless. White diamonds are classic and the value is very consistent. The simple beauty and sparkle of a white diamond is inspiring. There are so many jewelry possibilities that use white diamonds.
White diamonds are expensive and knowledge is needed to make a wise purchase. If you know the 4 C's of diamond classification you have a good start. In brief there is CUT, this is the shape and cutting style of the diamond. A diamond should look balanced. The top or crown and the pavilion or bottom should look correct together. The ring around the diamond is called the girdle and it should bring the two halves together and should not be too thick or thin. The next is COLOR. If you want a white or colorless diamond you should not see body color or lots of yellow flashes. Color is graded on a D through Z scale. D is the top and Z is strong yellow. Any color grade up to I should show no color. The closer to D the diamond is the higher the price. CLARITY is next. Most diamonds sold are in the SI or slightly included range. This means if you look under magnification you will see inclusions but will most likely not see them with your naked eye. Going up in grade there is VS or very slightly included and VVS which is very very slightly included. Any VS - VVS white diamond will be very clean and the cleaner it is the higher the price of the diamond. Last is CARAT which is how a white diamond or any diamond is weighed. This is the easiest to understand. Diamonds are rare and large diamonds are hard to come by. Once you reach the one carat size you are at a select group of diamonds. As the size from there goes up the price more than doubles with each carat in weight after that.
If you play with the 4 C's you can get the combination of size, color and weight you are looking for.
